[. . . ] CORDLESS ANSWERING SYSTEM 4695 · · · · Installation Telephone Operation Memory Dialing Answering System · At the Base · Away From the Base Installation 1. Your phone requires a modular telephone jack and a standard electrical outlet (110vAC). The outlet should not be controlled by a wall switch; if the switch is ever turned off, the phone will not operate. Set the TONE/PULSE switch: Set the TONE/PULSE switch to TONE if you have touch tone service, or PULSE if you have dial pulse (rotary) service. [. . . ] Press the OGM/REC button. Automatic Answering Operation The system is ready to answer calls whenever the ANS ON Light is on. When the system answers a call, the caller will hear the announcement you recorded, followed by a beep. After the beep, the system begins recording your caller's message; it stops recording when the caller hangs up or when the caller is silent for more than seven seconds if you have set the REC TIME to "VOX". To conserve space on the tape you may limit messages to a maximum of one minute by setting REC TIME to "1 MIN". The current day and time will be recorded after every message. Announce Only You may set your system so that it plays your announcement, but does not record messages. This feature is often used by business such as movie theaters and doctors' offices. We're sorry we missed your call, but if you call on Monday between 9 AM and 5 PM, someone will be glad to speak with you. Thank you. " NOTE: If you want your system to record incoming messages, please ensure REC TIME switch is set to either VOX or 1 MIN. Date Time Stamping The current day and time will be stamped behind incoming and memo messages just recorded. Message Volume Control Use the message VOLUME control to adjust the sound of your incoming messages. This does not affect the level of the announcement heard by callers. Message Window When messages have been recorded, the number of messages received will be shown in the Message Window. For example, if three messages are on the tape, a 3 will show in the window; if you have no messages, the Message Window will show 0. NOTE: When you have new messages waiting (messages that have come in since the last time you checked the system), the NEW MESSAGES light blinks. Ring Select/Toll Saver Your answering system has three Ring Select choices, giving you the opportunity to monitor calls, intercept calls, and save toll charges when you are calling the system from another location. The RING SELECT switch is located on the lower right side of the base. Set to 2 if you want the system to answer all calls after the second ring. Set to 4 if you want the system to answer all calls after the fourth ring. This selection allows you more time to answer the call before the system answers and plays your announcement. Set to TOLL SAVER if you want the system to answer calls after the second ring if you have messages, and after the fourth ring if you have no new messages. On this setting, when you call from another location for messages, you can hang up after three rings knowing you have no messages, and avoid paying longdistance charges. Listening to Your Messages Before playing your messages, set the message VOLUME control to the middle. The system will rewind the message tape and begin to play all messages. You can pause playback of the messages by pressing the PLAY/PAUSE button. Press it again when you want to resume listening to your messages. Saving Messages After playing your messages, the system automatically saves these messages and is ready to answer calls. Any new messages are recorded after the messages that have already been played, and you will hear both old and new messages each time you listen to all your messages. Clearing Messages If you wish to clear the messages, press REWIND/RESET. The system resets to answer calls, the number in the Message Window returns to 0, and any new messages are recorded over the old messages. [. . . ] If it doesn't stop, quickly press and release the switchhook of the extension phone you are using. Room Monitoring You can monitor the area around the system base unit. To activate room monitoring, press ANS SYS, then 8 (ROOM MONITOR), and use the handset to monitor the room. Press 8 (ROOM MONITOR) again to continue monitoring or press OFF to end room monitoring. Operating the Answering System Using a Touch Tone Phone Away from Your Home or Office Establishing a Connection with the Answering System NOTE: When the RING SELECT switch is set to TOLL SAVER, the system will answer after two rings if there are messages and after four rings if there are no new messages. When you call, if you hear the third ring you'll know that no one has left a message. [. . . ]
