End Intercom INTERCOM OPERATION At handset, press O. At base, pressK. To Answer an Incoming Call While Intercomming If an incoming call is received while you are using the intercom, you will hear a beep and the screen will display call informations as usual for 10 seconds. To end the intercom call and answer the incoming call: . . Press O twice on the handset or base to end the intercom call. on the Wait for the handset or the base to ring, then press P (or K) on the handset or K on the base to answer the call. To conference the incoming call with the intercom call: . Press P on the handset to conference the outside line with the base and the handset, or with the two handsets. -- OR -- Press K on the base to conference the outside line with the base and the handset. 35 91-5431-10-00_ATT5870_R0JUN040 2/5/03 4:03 PM Page 35 Blind Call Transfer If you have installed additional AT&T 5800 handsets (purchased separately) with your 5870 telephone, you can transfer a call from one handset to another. From the Handset 1 2 From the Base 1 2 Press . Press the number of the handset where you want the call transferred (for example, 2). NOTE: An unanswered call will ring back to the originating handset or base if not answered in 30 seconds. If the originating handset or base does not answer the unanswered call yet, the call will end automatically in 30 seconds. Announced Call Transfer From the Handset 1 2 3 4 5 6 Press HOLD to put the call on hold. OK , then use Press to highlight the OK call destination, then press again. Press P on the receiving handset or K on the base to pick up the call on hold. From the Base 1 2 3 4 5 Press H to put the call on hold. Press P on the receiving handset to pick up the call on hold. 36 INTERCOM OPERATION Press XFER , then use to highlight where you want the call transferred. OK Press when the desired destination is highlighted to complete the transfer. 91-5431-10-00_ATT5870_R0JUN040 2/5/03 4:03 PM Page 36 Conference Calling From the Handset 1 If one handset is already on a call, you can connect a second handset to the call by pressing P on the second handset -- OR -- If you are on an intercom call and have a second call on hold, press P to add the held call to the conference call. Disconnect either or both handsets by pressing O. INTERCOM OPERATION 2 From the Base 1 If one handset is already on a call, you can connect the base to the call by pressing K on the base. -- OR -- If you are on a call and have a second call on hold (one is an incoming call, the other is an outgoing call; or both are outgoing calls) on the base at the same time by using flash function, press F to add the held call to the conference call. Each number can be up to 32 digits long and each name can be up to 16 characters. Store a Number and Name in Phone Book 1 555 0123 PAUSE MENU MEM 2 Press MEM . The screen displays ENTER NAME CLEAR SAVE 3 Use the keypad and the chart on page 39 to enter the name ENTER NAME OFFICE_ CLEAR SAVE 4 Press SAVE . [. . . ] Move away from appliances while using the handset. 65 91-5431-10-00_ATT5870_R0JUN040 2/5/03 4:03 PM Page 65 PHONE PROBLEM If the phone does not ring when you receive a call: SOLUTION · Make sure the ringer is on (see "Ringer Volume" on pages 12 and 20). · Make sure the telephone line cord is connected firmly to the base and the telephone jack. · Make sure the AC adapter is plugged firmly into an electrical outlet not controlled by a wall switch. · You might have too many extension phones on your telephone line to allow all of them to ring.
