[. . . ] 8 · 2 9 3 Position the battery cover by sliding it on its track up over the battery compartment until it snaps firmly in place. Charge the handset battery with the handset face down in the base for at least 14 hours. After this initial charge, you can charge the handset battery with the power set to ON. After the batteries are charged, pick up the handset and set the POWER switch to ON. [. . . ] To increase the life of the battery pack, allow the battery to discharge fully before charging. A fully charged battery maintains standby power for up to 7 days and up to 4 hours of continuous talk time, when the handset is on and not in the base. If it's more convenient for you, you can leave the handset in the base all the time. If you get a low battery indicator even after 14 hours of charging, the battery should be replaced. CAUTION: To reduce the risk of fire or damage to persons or damage to the telephone, read and follow these instructions carefully. Released electrolyte is corrosive and may cause damage to the eyes or skin. Exercise care in handling batteries in order not to short the battery with conducting materials such as rings, bracelets, and keys. Charge the battery provided with or identified for use with this product only in accordance with the instructions and limitations specified in this manual. Replacing the Handset Battery Pack 1 2 Use a coin to pry the edge of the battery pack from the battery compartment, then lift it out. Align the battery contacts as shown below, then snap the new battery in place and replace the cover. ­ + · · · · · 3 OPERATION Power ON/OFF In order to use this phone, you must make sure the POWER ON/ OFF switch on the handset is set to ON. You can save battery power in the handset when the switch is set to OFF, but you will be unable to make or answer calls. Making a Call 1 2 Press P, and wait for the PHONE light to go on steadily. When you hear a dial tone, dial the number you're calling. Answering a Call · · Receiver/ Ringer Volume Control LOW BATT light shows battery power is low Make or respond to intercom call Access phone company subscriber services Prevent caller from hearing you If the handset is in the base, lift the handset. If the handset is away from the base, press P or any key on the handset, including V. The PHONE light goes on, and the call is connected. Ending a Call · · If you are near the base, place the handset in the base. If you are away from the base, press P. Redial last number called Make, answer, or end a call Store/access numbers in telephone memory Redial The last number dialed (up to 32 digits) on this phone is stored in redial memory until you dial another number. 2 When you hear a dial tone, press R. Mute The Mute feature allows you to hear your caller, but prevents the caller from hearing you. To continue your conversation with the caller: Press M again. Ringer Controls Handset Ringer Volume Temporary Tone Turn handset RIGNER ON or OFF In standby mode, adjust the handset ringer volume by pressing + on the handset to increase volume, or - to decrease. Base Ringer Volume Set the Ringer ON/OFF switch on the back of the base to ON if you want the base to ring, then press + or - on the front of the base to select high or low ringer volume. When the Base Ringer is OFF, the base won't ring, but the IN USE light will flash when a call is coming in. Ringer Selection You can choose from four different ringing options. 1 Make sure the phone power is set to ON, but the phone is not in use. 4 OPERATION Keep base antenna upright IN USE light goes on when line is in use INTCM light goes on when base is paged from handset and Intercom is in use CHARGING light goes on to show handset battery is charging Adjust speaker volume while on an intercom call; or adjust base Ringer volume Page the handset 2 3 Press F, then press a number button from 1 to 4. The handset gives a sample of the ringing option you have selected. 2 After you hang up, the phone automatically returns to dial pulse (rotary) dialing. Page/Intercom Handset Receiver Volume Control To adjust listening volume, repeatedly press + or on the handset during a call. Page Handset from Base 1 2 3 Press p on the base. When finished, press p on the base, or press I on the handset. Speaker Volume Control For intercom calls, adjust the speaker volume by pressing + on the base to increase volume, or - to decrease. Flash Press F to activate custom-calling services such as Call Waiting or 3-Way Calling. You may have to press other buttons before or after F as explained in custom-calling instructions provided by your local telephone service company. If you're paged at the handset while you're on a call, press I. To end the intercom conversation so you can return to the call, the person at the base must press p. [. . . ] If you still do not hear a dial tone, disconnect the phone and try another phone in the same wall jack. If there is no dial tone on that phone either, the problem is probably in your wiring or local service. Call your local telephone service company. Noise in the Handset and Buttons Don't Work The base unit and handset might not be set to the same security code. Place the handset in the base for at least 5 seconds to reset the security code.
