[. . . ] It can be set to work directly with long-distance or certain other services that require tone signaling including some tone activated computer systems. 1 INSTALLATION TABLE/DESK INSTALLATION This telephone includes a 7-foot line cord with a modular plug on each end. Connect line cord to telephone Plug the long line cord into the jack on the underside of the telephone base. Then feed the line cord through the channel provided so the telephone sits flat on your table or desk during use. [. . . ] Write in your own telephone number and up to nine other numbers you want to remember on the directory card. Plug the line cord into the jack on the underside of the base Feed the short line cord into the channel. Feed the last portion (as short as possible), through one of the slots in the mounting area. Install telephone base on wall jack Hold the base up next to the wall jack and plug in the line cord. Then push the base against the wall jack and down until it is held securely by the mounting studs. 3 INSTALLATION 5. Make sure you choose the correct dialing method (TONE/PULSE); touch tone dialing will not work if you have dial pulse service. Connect handset to telephone base Connect one end of the coiled handset cord to the base. If you can't hear a dial tone, refer to "In Case of Difficulty" and try to correct the problem. Line Jack Wall Jack Handset Jack Figure 4 NOTE: If you cannot fit the base onto the wall jack plate, remove the top two non-slip feet. 4 OPERATION Redial The telephone always stores in memory the last number dialed. The number will remain in memory until you change it by dialing another telephone number. Lift the handset, then press any digit (1-9). Flash Press FLASH instead of pressing the switchhook to activate customer calling services such as call waiting or three-way calling. You may have to press other buttons before or after FLASH as explained in custom calling instructions provided by your local telephone company. Ringer Volume The RINGER volume switch allows you to adjust the loudness of the telephone ringer from OFF to LO to HI. Slide the switch to the desired volume level. Receiver (Handset) Volume The Receiver volume switch on the left side of the base has three positions which allow you to adjust the loudness of your call from NORMAL to LOUD. Slide the switch to the desired volume level. Temporary Tone Temporary tone dialing is used only when you have rotary service. It allows you access to services that require tone signaling, including some tone-activated computer systems (e. g. , telephone banking). After you hang up, the phone automatically returns to rotary service. 5 MEMORY Memory Features Numbers will remain stored in memory unless you erase or change them by entering other numbers. Capacity: This telephone can store up to nine different phone numbers, each up to 18 digits long. [. . . ] If you have tone dialing service, you can use either tone or dial-pulse mode. Telephone Does Not Ring Make sure the Ringer switch is not set to OFF. If there are several other phones on the same line, try disconnecting some of the other telephones. [. . . ]
