Please be sure to read all instructions thoroughly to get the most from your Nikon scanner. User's Manual (this manual) This manual provides instructions for setting up and using your scanner. Nikon Scan Software Manual (on CD) This electronic manual provides complete oper ating instructions for the software that makes your scanner run, Nikon Scan 3. 1. [. . . ] Once the holder has been inserted as far as the insertion guide, the scanner's loading mechanism will be activated and the holder will be fed into the scanner automatically. Remove your hands from the holder when loading star ts. Inser tion guide Loading will stop when the holder is in scanning position. Caution Holders can not be inserted into the scanner if the sliding cover is not fully open. Removing the holder or otherwise interfering with loading can cause scanning errors. When ejecting the holder, always use the button on the front of the scanner or the eject button in the Nikon Scan scan window. If the holder does not load automatically when inserted, remove the holder and try again. 41 12-4 Choose the type of film to be scanned from the Nikon Scan media-type menu. 12-5 Choose a color model from the color-model menu. The Grayscale option is for use when scanning black-and-white (monochrome) film, while CMYK is intended for professionals who wish to create a file ready for printing on an industrial four-color printer. To select multiple frames, click each frame in turn while holding down the control (Windows) or command (Macintosh) key, or hold down the shift key while clicking two images to select the images and all frames between them. Open the Digital ICE Cubed palette by clicking the triangle at its top left corner. Click To remove dust and scratches from the image, check Enable Digital ICE and select Normal or Fine from Digital ICE menu. A setting of Fine can be used to remove very fine scratches or barely visible dust, although this may sometimes result in reduced sharpness. To restore faded colors or reduce the effects of film grain, first check Enable Post Processing. Faded colors can be restored adjusting the Digital ROC slider, while the image can be processed to minimize grain using the Digital GEM slider.
