[. . . ] Swipe the finger with the enrolled fingerprint across the fingerprint sensor. If a security warning window appears, click Yes or OK to proceed. You can always type your user information that has been registered in the password bank to access password-protected Web sites. n 104 N Customizing Your VAIO Computer Importing/Exporting Password Bank Entries You can export/import entries to/from the password bank for a backup or recovery purpose. Click OK. n 106 N Customizing Your VAIO Computer Using the File Safe Feature With the File Safe feature, you can create an encrypted archive to include a file or folder for protection against unauthorized access. The encrypted archive can be decrypted or unlocked for included file/folder access by swiping your finger across the fingerprint sensor or entering the backup password you specified for encryption. To create a new encrypted archive to include a file or folder 1 2 3 Right-click the desired file or folder and select Add to new encrypted archive. The encryption process starts and a message will appear upon completion. Select Delete original files or Keep original files, depending on whether you want to remove or retain the original file or folder. The archive extension will be *. uea for the archive including encrypted multiple files or folders or *. ueaf for the archive including a single encrypted file. To add a file or folder to the existing encrypted archive 1 2 3 4 Right-click the desired file or folder and select Add to existing encrypted archive. Select the archive (*. uea) to which you want add the file or folder and click Open. Swipe the finger with the enrolled fingerprint across the fingerprint sensor. Be sure to keep it safe and private from other people. 10 After setting the password, click Next. 11 Click Finish. The Create PIN window asks you to set the PIN if you select TPM Key with PIN in step 8 and click OK. n 114 N Customizing Your VAIO Computer Logging onto Windows 1 2 3 Wait until a message TPM Cryptography in progress closes on the Windows log-on screen. You can log onto your user account just by swiping the finger with the enrolled fingerprint even if your computer is shared by multiple users. n 115 N Customizing Your VAIO Computer Erasing the Enrolled Fingerprints Before disposing of your computer or transferring it to a third person, it is strongly recommended you erase the fingerprint data enrolled on the fingerprint sensor after erasing the data stored on your hard disk. To erase the enrolled fingerprints 1 2 Turn on the computer. If not, restart the computer and press the F2 key several times when the VAIO logo appears. Press the < or , key to select Security to display the Security tab. Press the m key to select Clear Fingerprint Data and press the Enter key. The fingerprint data enrolled on the fingerprint sensor is erased automatically after your system restarts. 3 4 n 116 N Customizing Your VAIO Computer Using Trusted Platform Module (TPM) Trusted Platform Module (TPM) is embedded in selected models only and provides your computer with basic security functions. In combination with the TPM, you can encrypt and decrypt your data to strengthen computer security against inappropriate access. TPMs are defined by Trusted Computing Group (TCG) and also called security chips. See the online Specifications to find whether the TPM is available on your model. Precautions on Using the TPM Although your computer is provided with the latest TPM security functions, these functions do not assure complete protection of your data and hardware.
